Project Management Simulation Workshop

Project Management Simulation Workshop
Taking past, present and future Project’s through the dynamics of the Project simulation, organizations can prepare for a realistic experience before commencing on Strategic Projects. Its essential uniqueness is obvious from the very outset in the manner in which it is presented: from the first moments, the delegates are organized into teams, and the facilitator is not merely a trainer, but acts throughout as a virtual Project Sponsor. The methodology integrates the acquisition of theoretical knowledge and immediate personal participation in a way that no other Project Management course does

The first day of the course lays a foundation of sound Project Management competencies through a blend of practical exercise and experiential reflection and discussion.  This interaction is the first stage of team building, so that, while learning the theory of team building techniques, the teams are already unknowingly bonding with each other and pooling their skills, which they will later co-ordinate during the simulation of a real-life project.  The theoretical section of Simulator provides delegates with the necessary know how by concentrating on the ten knowledge areas of Project Management as set out in the PMI's PMBOK. After introducing the principles of the Work Breakdown Structure, Gantt Chart and Network Diagram the delegates are almost ready to commence the simulation.

Enter  the Case Study.  Leaders have to conduct an in-depth personality profiling based on the CVs of a pool of virtual resources. Delegates subject the CVs to careful scrutiny and use certain critical factors drawn from these documents to create a project team as free as possible of interpersonal conflict. But since this is almost impossible in the high-stress environment of the world of projects, the course coaches delegates on how to positively manage conflict, anger, stress and other factors of the volatile but indispensable human element, so as to derive the greatest possible benefit from the human resources at hand.  The Simulated Project Planning commences, costings are made, Risks assessed, schedules adjusted the final Plan submitted to the Virtual Sponsor for approval and registration.

Let the Games begin!!!!  Leaders run the simulated project through the medium of software.

This, however, is no trouble-free project, and the simulation is always one step ahead of the delegates: it throws out realistic obstacles of every nature at crucial moments of the project, yet the teams of delegates have no option but to launch the project on an exact date – not one day earlier, nor one day later. They are thus constantly engaged in problem solving, risk management and realistic interaction with each other and the facilitator.

The course is the ultimate in versatility.  Role-play simulation is in prime demand for the “now” generation clients, in preference to the traditional and rather outmoded “Chalk and Talk” of staid academia. Simulation for the project manager - just like for the pilot - can be extensively used as both an essential learning tool and as a problem-solving tool.  Delegates who may arrive on the first day of the course drag their heels; invariably leave the course energized, inspired and even relaxed, which, one must admit, is rare upon completion of a course demanding total, undivided personal involvement…
